What is a forex heatmap?
A forex heatmap is a grid visualization showing the relative performance of one currency against all others in a single view. Each cell represents a currency pair's percentage change over a chosen timeframe - green for gains, red for losses - making it easy to identify which currencies are leading and lagging the broader FX market right now.
How traders use the heatmap
- Pair selection: buy the strongest currency against the weakest - e.g. if JPY is dark red across the row and USD is dark green, USD/JPY momentum is clear.
- Trade confirmation: before entering a setup, check the heatmap to confirm the broader market is in agreement with your directional bias.
- Correlation awareness: if EUR and GBP are both strong vs USD, don't double-up on EUR/USD and GBP/USD longs - they'll move together.
Heatmap + Economic Calendar
The heatmap tells you what is moving. The economic calendar tells you why. Use them together: when you see a currency flipping strong or weak on the heatmap, open the calendar to find the catalyst (a central-bank decision, a surprise CPI print, a jobs number).
