Stock Heatmap
A sector-grouped heatmap of the entire S&P 500. Block size = market capitalisation, colour = daily percent change. Instantly see which sectors are leading the market and which megacaps are driving the move.
What is a stock heatmap?
A stock heatmap is a treemap visualisation of an index - typically the S&P 500 - where every constituent is a rectangle sized by market capitalisation and coloured by percent change. Instead of scanning 500 rows of data, you see market health at a glance: a mostly green map = a risk-on day, mostly red = risk-off.
How traders use the stock heatmap
- Sector rotation: which sectors are leading vs lagging tells you where institutional money is flowing.
- Leadership check: if only 3-4 megacaps are pulling the S&P higher while the rest is flat/red, the rally is fragile (narrow breadth).
- Idea generation: the biggest red blocks in a strong sector are often short candidates; the biggest green blocks in a weak sector are counter-trend long candidates.
Heatmap + macro tools
Pair the stock heatmap with our economic calendar to align your positioning with upcoming catalysts (FOMC, CPI, NFP all move equities). And use the forex heatmap to watch USD strength - a surging dollar typically weighs on multinational megacap earnings.
